#71 • 1966 PORSCHE 906 RE-CREATION

Part of 5/3/2025 Spring Collector Motor Series Auction (live auction by Henderson Auctions)

Status: No sale

The Porsche 906 was the evolution of Porsche’s successful 904 platform. The 906 saw improvements in the form of a lightweight body instead of heavy steel, along with a lighter 6-cylinder engine. The 906 would go on to win in class in its debut at the 1966 24 Hours of Daytona. This beautiful Re-Creation was built between 2020 and 2021 by a Porsche specialist in southwestern France. The chassis is constructed with a tubular steel spaceframe wrapped in unstressed fiberglass. This simulates closely how the original 906 chassis was constructed. The fiberglass body was molded from an original 906 body and is finished in green paint with silver accents. The wheels are 15 inches and are wrapped in Mazzini and Habilead tires. The suspension is a double wishbone setup with adjustable coilovers front and rear. The brakes are four-wheel disc brakes with dual master cylinders and adjustable bias. The engine is a 1976 model 2.7L flat six sourced from a 911. It is believed to have been modified by a French Porsche specialist. Fitted are triple-throat Weber 46 carburetors with intake trumpets, a Carrera RS-style lightened flywheel, and an oil cooler mounted in the nose of the car. The transmission is a reinforced, five-speed, side-shifted transaxle sourced from a 914. The interior is finished with red upholstered bucket seats, a three-spoke steering wheel, and a central-mounted shifter. The black fiberglass dash panel houses an 8-thousand RPM tachometer. Chassis 2198726B Selling in the Henderson Collector Motor Series Auction on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in Birmingham, Alabama.
